OUR MISSION :

"To improve mental health services and supports for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness in
Cape Breton"

Our Programs

Donations to the Foundation have been used to assist in the development of programs in the following areas:

The Foundation has also contributed to the development and expansion of the SHIMI project (Supportive Housing for Individuals with Mental Illness).  This multi-agency group has been successful in securing funding to establish 13 supportive housing apartments in Sydney and Sydney Mines.  The Cape Breton Mental Health Foundation provided financial support to fully furnish and provide appliances for the first nine apartments.  Plans are underway to increase the number of units to 50 within the Cape Breton District Health Authority.

The Foundation has restored and dedicated as a cemetery the burial site of deceased patients from the former Cape Breton Hospital in Sydney River.

Our most recent project is a collaboration with other sponsors to support the RACEFORMENTALHEALTH initiative. This wonderful project will not only raise awareness of the importance of exercise in improving and maintaining mental wellness and in combating the side effects of many medications, but will also help raise funds for mental health services and supports in Nova Scotia.
